L&M Keating Ltd. signs contract with Laois County Council for Refurbishment and Development of Stradbally Library and Arthouse
Contracts were signed and sealed by Laois County Council and Clare based contractors L&M Keating Ltd. for the Stradbally Courthouse / Library & Arthouse Project on 16th December 2009 in the presence of An Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr. James Daly, elected members representing the Emo electoral area, Mr. Peter Carey, County Manager and Mr. Lorchan Hoyne of L&M Keating Ltd.
The works include the proposed refurbishment of the existing Courthouse building, which is a protected structure and provision of a remodelled library annex and an Arts Complex with accommodation for artists in residence, also to include studios and ancillary spaces.
Cathaoirleach Cllr. James Daly welcomed the refurbishment of Stradbally Courthouse, highlighting its positive effects on the local community of Stradbally and also the wider county. He congratulated Laois County Council for its forwarding thinking in making funds available to proceed with the project, especially in the current economic climate.
Mr. Peter Carey, County Manager and Mr. Declan Byrne, Director of Services thanked the elected members for their commitment to this project and acknowledged the work of the Design Team and Council staff, including Mr. Gerry Maher, County Librarian and Ms. Muireann Ni Chonaill, Arts Officer.
Mr. Lorchan Hoyne from L&M Keating Ltd. stated that the company was proud to be involved with the conservation and refurbishment of such a historic building and looked forward to providing what will undoubtedly be a landmark building for the town.
Works are due to commence on site early in the New Year.
