| DOONBEG PIER Doonbeg, Co. Clare. |
This 70m long concrete pier is used for fishing boats and pleasure craft and is on the Clare Atlantic Coastline. L&M Keating Ltd. constructed the initial 35m pier for Clare County Council as a design and build mass concrete structure in 1995. It was later extended a further 35m to approximately 1.2m below lowest tidal level, as a re-enforced concrete box structure, founded on bedrock. The exposed location and immersed working presented construction difficulties, which were overcome by the use of prefabrication and intertidal working shifts. The adjacent seabed was dredged down to rock level, also by intertidal working, and rock breaking was carried out along the pier working face. |
