| GALMOY MINES DREDGING Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny |
L & M Keating’s contract in Galmoy consisted of the following:- Using the cutter-suction Versi- Dregder 7012, LMK carried the cut & fill of 30,000m3 of material from a settlement pond to remove the hills and hollows so that when the water level is dropped down there will be no significant water ponds being retained. There was 15,000m3 of material cut & filled within Pond A and 15,000m3 to pumped to an adjacent pond (Pond B) to fill up existing voids so capping layers can be installed to finish off the filled pond (Pond B). The dredger is equipped to dredge to a depth of 22ft (7.2m). A slurry pump is attached to the cutter unit. This pump removed all silt, sands and small gravels excavated by the cutter head. The pump is located on the deck of the dredger and an outlet is positioned on the stern of the dredger. The discharge pipe is 300mm and material can be pumped up to a distance of 2km at full capacity. The outlet at the discharge end was floating and was also being moved around by personnel on a tug boat to fill all the low areas Using Wire Rope system to stretch across Pond A, between 2 pieces of plant (6Tonne Dumpers), and this was the guide for the dredger while dredging. The machine uses a winch drum to travel along the rope. The wire rope would be advanced by the cutter width on every pass. Set up stops on guide rope/wire at a distance to be specified by Galmoy Mines to avoid contact between the dredger and the containment membrane. In the adjacent pond, LMK positioned the floating delivery head in the pond using wire ropes and winches between the onshore based plant. |
