This project consists of the renovation, restoration, conversion and extension of an existing convent building into 16No. luxury apartments overlooking Kilkee Town. The development also consists of the construction of 30No. Apartments in four separate blocks on the existing convent grounds and associated site works with connection to the town’s main sewer and water supply. The works to the existing Convent Building included the demolition of an existing derelict wing which was then rebuilt and extended to tie into the existing structure. Particular details with regards to restoration of existing elements of the building were developed and perfected over the course of the project. In particular works carried out included: Removal and refurbishment to existing roofs. Refurbishment, flaunching and stabilisation of all chimneys. New concrete floors at ground level. Full insulation of walls, ceilings and roof spaces. Installation of new heating system. New electrical wiring throughout. Full fitout of toilets and bathrooms in all apartment. Alteration to existing openings to comply with disability access requirements. The installation of a new lift. The installation of new external areas. The cleaning down, re-plastering, restoration and re-painting of all external facades. The installation of new glazing in existing window opes The internal finished to the converted spaces were of the highest standard and mixed contemporary design with sensitive restoration of existing features. At all times the conservation aspects of the project were placed at the highest priority while also incorporating the clients requirements with regard to program budget and quantity. Throughout the project L&M Keating Ltd continuously liaised with and implemented the guidelines of the conservation architect. Particular Health & Safety issues during the project included: The demolition and restoration of existing floors within the building while maintaining protected ceiling finishes. Installing a new roof over the building while protecting the internal finishes. Setting up workshops on site to carry out craft and restoration activities. |
