| RIVER BANDON WATERMAIN CROSSING, Bandon, Co. Cork. |
L&M Keating were contracted to install a 300mm HDPE watermain under the Bandon Estuary as part of the Inishannon Regional Water Supply Scheme during Summer 2009. The estuary is 270m wide at this point including approximately 150m of mud slobs that uncover at low tide. The estuary is an established navigation channel, as well as an environmentally sensitive area. A method was devised to sleeve the HDPE pipe in precast concrete pipes which acted as protection and ballast. The pipe was laid in a cut and cover excavation through the estuary bed, and was completed within a two week timescale. |
