| RNLI INSHORE LIFEBOAT STATION Kinsale, Co. Cork |
Kinsale Lifeboat Station was constructed on a purpose built new quay and houses a D class inflatable lifeboat in a boathouse and recovery is by customised quay side crane. The building also houses crew facilities, administrative and training facilities. The quay structure was constructed with concrete filled caissons founded on bedrock under an alluvial beach, and approximately 4m below chart datum. The confined site in this busy tourist location with zero footprint at the commencement of works (the site was underwater) presented logistical challenges, as well as difficulties associated with underwater working. A feature of the building is that it utilised heat recovery from the seawater by the provision of heat recovery coils in the quay wall caissons. |
